Sonic laboratory with theremins and various sound effects, controllers and computers. Participants could do some experimentation themselves. This can be a free, walk-in, installation, possibly in the same room as, or close to, the workspace for the theremin build and upgrade. Participants can plan a visit in between their scheduled workshops and lessons.

All active participants are allowed to participate passive in all workshops and join in the concert for free. It is also possible to practice in many rooms at music school. Lessons and workshops should please be payed directly to the teachers. Hotel please pay directly in the hotel.

Voraussetzungen/Beschreibungstext für die Teilnahme an der Lippstadt only-Klasse:
Kammermusik stellt eine ganz andere Herausforderung als solistisches Auftreten mit oder ohne Begleitung dar und stellt an den Musiker ganz andere Anforderungen. Ganz besonders schwierig ist das mit dem Theremin: Nicht nur Interferenzen müssen beim Setup der Instrumente vermieden werden, sondern auch das eigene akustische Feedback und das harmonische Einordnen ins Ensemble sind extreme Herausforderungen. Thierry wird dabei seine langjährige Erfahrung einerseits als "Thérémingénieur" und andererseits als Leiter von Jugendblasorchestern und A-capella-Chören beitragen. Die Teilnehmer sollten Noten lesen und einfache Melodien, deren Tonumfang eine bis anderthalb Oktaven nicht überschreitet, spielen können.
Chamber music is a very different challenge compared to solo performance with or without accompaniment and poses totally different musical requirements. It's still more difficult with the theremin: The setup should already avoid interference, the own acoustical feedback and harmonic position inside the ensemble are extreme challenges. The goal here isn't learning rapidly a piece in order to perform it 2 days later as it is usual at similar events, but to start the necessary musical ear training with simple polyphonic exercises. Those lessons will be continued at the coming Without Touch festivals in Lippstadt/Germany, at the Node festivals in Lausanne and eventually at Hands Off in England in order to gather a European Theremin Ensemble at long term. Thierry has conducted youth wind orchestras and a-capella choirs during many years and will bring in this experience as much as his knowledge as "Thérémingénieur". The participants are required to read music and be able to play simple melodies within a range of one to one and a half octave.
Beschreibungstext für den Gruppenkurs "Dein Theremin, das unbekannte Wesen":
Auch ohne Ingenieurstudium sollen die Teilnehmer grundsätzlich verstehen, wie ihr Theremin funktioniert, welche externen Faktoren welchen Einfluss haben, und wie man dieses Wissen und Verstehen nutzen kann, um beginnend beim Setup und Einstimmen optimale Ergebnisse hinsichtlich Spielbarkeit und Linearität zu erzielen, sowie beim Auftreten von Problemen und Störungen diesen ruhig und souverän zu begegnen.
Beschreibungstext für die Thereminwerkstatt:
Wie jedes Musikinstrument braucht auch das Theremin mit seinen empfindlichen Hochfrequenzoszillatoren einen regelmässigen "Service", damit die Spielbarkeit (Tonumfang, Linearität, Ansprache der Volume-Antenne), die unter häufigen Transporten, Erschütterungen, Temperatur- und Feuchtigkeitsschwankungen häufig leidet, erhalten oder wieder hergestellt werden kann. Der Preis für diesen Basis-Service, den man seinem Instrument einmal im Jahr gönnen sollte hängt von der Komplexität des Instrumentes ab und variiert von 35€ für ein Moog Etherwave Standard/Plus bis zu 100€ für ein Moog Etherwave Pro. Für einen geringen Aufpreis kann an vielen Instrumenten auch ein erweitertes Tuning durchgeführt werden, welches den Tonumfang und die Linearität des Instrumentes gegenüber der originalen Spezifikation verbessert. Daneben biete ich natürlich auch Reparaturen an der Elektronik der Instrumente an, sowie die Installation der von mir entwickelten Erweiterungsmodule in Zusammenarbeit mit Wilco Botermans. Oftmals ist es möglich, eine Reparatur oder den Moduleinbau mit dem Basis-Service und/oder dem erweiterten Tuning zu einem günstigeren Gesamtpreis zu kombinieren.
